Leadership

Leadership is planned to give students the opportunity to contribute to the school and greater community. Leadership qualifies as an Applied Skills (4 credits) course. In class students will improve communication skills, problem solving, goal setting, and event planning. Students will use these skills to plan events that are designed to positively affect the Moscrop Secondary School Community.

Students wishing to enroll in Leadership are required to complete an application form. Selection will be based on the student’s willingness to make themselves available for events that will occur outside of the designated class time, ability to work in productive groups and their potential as student leaders. Students elected to student council will be automatically enrolled in the course.

First Aid 11/12

 

First Aid is for students interested in forming the school first aid team. Enrolling students serve as a first aid attendant during their assigned block and at school events. Student’s First Aid certification will be upgraded to the St. John Ambulance Standard Level.



Leadership 10

The Leadership 10 course is designed to give students the opportunity to explore leadership skills around curricular English and P.E. Students participate in a scheduled English and P.E. class while completing required leadership projects. Projects must be designed to involve the school or a leadership group. Project range from school wide events to leadership class field trips.

Students wishing to participate in P.E. leadership 10 are required to complete an application form. Successful applicants will be individuals who have demonstrated the ability to be active group members. During course selection care needs to be taken to ensure that both the English and P.E. selection is made.

Students are expected to complete a number of service Hours throughout the term. Time spent acting as a scorekeeper, referee, dance set up crew or helping at a lunch time event may be counted as service hours.



P.E. Leadership 11

P.E. Leadership is a program designed for individuals interested in a career or job in the field of recreation or sport. P.E. Leadership qualifies as an Applied Skills (4 credits) course. Students in the P.E. leadership program act as a P.E. assistant to one of the P.E. 8/9 classes. The P.E. leadership student is expected to help in skill development, group management, and some evaluation. Students will be an active part of every class, leading games and warm ups.

P.E. Leadership students are also expected to attend a mandatory morning meeting where issues of theory will be discussed. Once a week assignments or discussions will be structured to build the students knowledge of coaching and P.E. theory.



P.E. Leadership 12

P.E. Leadership 12 is an extension of P.E. Leadership 11. Students in this program will remain P.E. assistants and are expected to complete a series of theory based assignments. P.E. Leadership 11 is a prerequisite. P.E. Leadership 12 assignments will focus on specific areas of student interest and advanced theory applications.
